Nuclear Regulatory Commission
Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board
"Our increased dependence on foreign oil profoundly
illustrates our nation's failure to establish an effective
energy policy."
Chapter I
Taking Stock
This rendering of the current electricity generation plan says the
United States is counting on the continued increased production
of worldwide oil (2% annually) through 2025 and will need no
increase in alternative (oil replacement) capability. This plan is
not based on reality because worldwide oil production cannot
increase 2% annually, or meet known global demand with a
world economy expanding 4-5% annually.
Aerial photo of Yucca Mountain, proposed
waste site for 77 kilotons of nuclear waste. We
currently generate 2 kilotons per year. If we
triple nuclear capability to supplant diminishing
oil& gas energy, we will generate 6 kilotons per
year and need a new Yucca-sized site every 12
years. We've got some serious national
planning to do.
